Tornillo Máquina
El tornillo máquina es un tornillo de cabeza hexagonal de grado 2. Es la alternativa económica de un tornillo hexagonal de alta resistencia, es por esto que es uno de los tornillos más comerciales.
La categoría “grado 2”, indica que la resistencia del tornillo es para cargas livianas puesto que está hecho de acero con bajo contenido de carbono. Por lo regular, no tiene una marca de grado en la cabeza (como es el caso de los de alta resistencia) y su cuerda se maneja en medidas estándar tanto parcial como corrida.
Sus medidas se manejan de acuerdo a las normas americanas, es decir, en pulgadas pero también se conoce su medida en milímetros. Por ejemplo, un tornillo máquina de 5/8 x 3, en milímetros sería un tornillo máquina 16×76. O en el caso de un tornillo máquina de 5/8 x 2 ½ en milímetros sería un tornillo máquina 16×63. Las medidas más solicitadas son ¼ hasta 1 ½ de diámetro y en largos de hasta 20 pulgadas.

Habitualmente, se inserta a través de orificios roscados ya existentes como tuercas o máquinas, por eso se le llama tornillo de máquina. Sin embargo, aunque parezca contradictorio por su nombre, no es el tornillo más utilizado en máquinas pues los tornillos que se utilizan en máquinas industriales requieren de una alta resistencia, como es el caso de los tornillos hexagonales de grado 5, grado 8 y estructurales.
